The spacing. The timing. The state nobody thought about. The extra click that shouldn’t be there.
Then I step back again. Does it work as one product, and does it make sense to the person using it?
The interface and the system behind it have to agree.
Usability lives on the surface. Speed and reliability often start underneath it. The product only feels right when both sides work together.
What needs to happen now?
What can wait?
Who depends on this decision?
What are we choosing not to do?
Listen to what people depend on. Be clear about what can wait and what gets left out. Then choose a direction and take responsibility for it.
